Hello and welcome to Glenavon School.
Glenavon has a proud history of producing extremely high achieving students- duxes of local High School, people with degrees and many fine citizens.
We are a multi-cultural school, celebrating our cultures and differences, but affirming we now are all New Zealanders, and that our future is bright.
We acknowledge that Maori are the first people of this nation (tangata whenua) with unique rights.
As a result, the underlying philosophy of our school values, foci and teacher/studentdemeanour, are based on the HIKAIRO RATIONALE, a concept highlighted by the
New Zealand Maori academic and researcher, Angus Macfarlane, 1997: 2007.
Huakina mai: Opening doorways. We are determined to enable our students to open doorways to success in life, life time learning, and doorways of connectedness to all that can be available to them to facilitate this in the wider community.
Ihi: Being assertive. At Glenavon School the students have strong, clear, safe boundaries – our Kid in the Glen values. As a result, we have no behavioural issues that are not quickly and easily solved
Kotahitanga:Linking home and school. Glenavon School has a student/ parent /teacher conference every term so learning goals and progressions are shared and understood. Regular consultation meeting are held and the school operates an open door policy
Awhinatia mai: Restorative justice. Glenavon School has had no stand-downs or suspension for 4 years. We are dedicated not to allow our student learning to be off track and the emphasis is to help students own and examine their behaviour, restoration, and change for higher heights.
IRunga I te Manaaki:Growing a caring community. At Glenavon we operate a whanau (family) school within the tuakana/teina (the older siblings looking out for the younger) concept.
Rangatiratanga:Motivating Learners. Glenavon students are motivated to do well in life, to achieve their hopes and dreams, by commitment, hard work and forward planning. In classrooms students are engaged and happy, always ready to learn more. They understand that new learning can sometimes initially be frustrating and create diffidence, but when it is easy it is because they already know it!

Orangatanga: Developing a nurturing environment. All Glenavon students are accepted for who they are. The school exists to realise our students’ unrealised potential leading to unlimited potential.
We are an academic, intellectual school;high student achievement being our core business. We have special programmes to help students for whom English is not their first language.
Staff, children, members of the Board of Trustees, the Parent Teacher Association, join to welcome you and wish your family successful and enriching years in our school family.
